Mad Bits

The Just Barelys’ new album Mad Bits is a little bit of art rock mixed with a little bit of pop. That being said, the Halifax duo (Stephen Kelly and Eleanor King) offers hints of just about everything on their latest release. The experimental album has catchy and fun tunes like “Lions” where the band blends Vampire Weekend-esque guitar with distortion. Mad Bits also has simple yet effective songs, such as the opener “Mountain Low” where Kelly sings, “I just want a job that is real”. If he and King continue to put out crafty albums like this one, then music is going to be the only job that the duo will need to do for a while.
