Photographer Cathy McKelvey
This stunning image (left) of Atlantic Canada’s
beloved and ‘oh so talented’ flamenco dancer, Maria Osende, graced the cover
of Arts East’s Fall 2010 issue. The photo is so
captivating that we continue to celebrate it today using it as our Facebook and
Twitter icons. The photographer who captured Osende in this distinctive pose is
Cathy McKelvey.
Cathy McKelvey is an artist fascinated by people in
motion. Cathy's most recent exhibition was about children and play. A few of
these will be on display at the Woodlawn branch of the HRM Library (July
through Sept).
Cathy is currently working on a long term project placing ballet dancers in the Dartmouth landscape.
Previously, Cathy’s works have been featured in solo
shows at Gallery 78 (Fredericton), Craig
Gallery (Dartmouth) and ViewPoint Gallery (Halifax) and as part of group shows
at ViewPoint Gallery (Halifax), and in New Brunswick (Saint John and
Fredericton) with the Fredericton-based photography collective SilverFish.
“Celebrate diversity. Be
curious. Look with intensity. People are amazingly unique.” – Cathy McKelvey
